Below an article from 1958 ‘Woman’s Mirror’ magazine highlighting the role that was played by the womenfolk of Dungeness in the launching and retrieval of the lifeboats over decades until mechanism took over in the early 1960’s.

I had previously written that the ladies role today is less strenuous, yes maybe physically but equally important, organising fundraising events etc.  This seems  very patronising as there are now many female crew members and in May 2024 the station proudly welcomed their first lady Coxwain – Natalie Adams
