A new book, released in the past few days entitled ‘Nanny Goat Island – Dungeness – Then and Now’, by fairly local author Keith Swallow, is available direct from the author. Will be on Amazon later but this, painstakingly, researched book should be acquired now by any lover of the area! – In my opinion possibly the best account of Dungeness through the ages highlighting the life, history, make up of the area with dozens of photographs, many hitherto unpublished, with contributions from locals, anecdotes and a wealth of information all written with great authority.
Well worth a read and at £15.00, including post and packaging an exceptional addition to any library.

I spent 😯 YEARS LIVING AT DUNGENESS 50 OF THEM FISHING WE LIVED AT THE CABIN 52 YEARS MOVED TO LADE 2014
Keith, I’m a long retired “Lyddite” having lived in Vancouver and other parts of British Columbia for many years. When will the book be issued by Amazon? My mother (yet another Richardson) grew up and lived in what is now Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage. It certainly wasn’t on the market for that price when my grandfather lived there. He was George Richardson; served on the lifeboat and in the navy for many years. He is mentioned in “Wrecks and Rescues off the Romney Marsh Coast” by Ted Carpenter page 77. My aunt and uncle lived at Denge Marsh; Tom Prebble was a fisherman and they kept goats, most of them blown up by mines early in the war (we would hear the explosion and say that there goes another one).
My great great grandfather surname tart built garden cottage our family home until 1980 when my mother died she certainly didn’t think of it as a shack I don’t know what she would think of it now a lot of Alfred’s lived there.
